Die nächste Gärtnerei
forty five degrees, in collaboration with fatkoehl Architekten, was awarded the commission for the redevelopment of the former Gärtnerei Zobel in Braunschweig.
The 1,4-hectare site of the former Gärtnerei Zobel in Lehmnanger 14 has been vacant for several years. The site includes existing buildings, former greenhouses, and a thriving pioneer forest that has emerged over time; it is now designated for redevelopment. Our winning proposal envisions a future nursery: a hybrid neighbourhood for the common good that integrates existing structures and natural elements while creating new spaces for flexible uses, living, learning, and working.

Future Gärtnerei
The entirely anthropogenic pioneer forest is the foundation and starting point of this urban proposal. Rather than simply preserving it, additional open spaces for animals, plants, and people will be established alongside it to nurture its continued development. The urban scheme aims to foster the potential for multi-species coexistence, allowing this vibrant urban ecosystem to evolve and adapt over time.
During the competition phase, we integrated Studio Erde’s expertise in anthropocene landscapes to assess the existing landscape and inform the proposal’s development.
