Radical Rituals 45ºN1ºW – 45ºN35ºW Publication Series

Radical Rituals is an itinerant survey along the 45ºN parallel between 45°N 1°W and 45°N 35°E. It is a study of the inventiveness of everyday life, new spatial practices, and vernacular rituals that stimulate and nurture commons across Europe. More just spatial practices are to be found in the diversity and nuances of myriad space-making paradigms. Good examples can inform our practice as architects, urban planners, and researchers.

This territorial study leads to a reassessment of architectural practice by assimilating and adapting existing local techniques and solutions and developing innovative learning methods that are embedded in the locality of each region. To achieve that, activating collaborations through in situ actions allows us to put into practice hands-on experiments and disseminate the research by directly engaging local communities. These activities yield both tangible and intangible outcomes, ranging from exhibitions and conversations to archives and publications.

Through publishing this research expands networks and knowledge and enhances vocabularies and collaborations around Europe, creating a collective method for rethinking spatial practice.
